The Piano Ensemble annual concert, Eleganza 2010: Cultural Kaléidoscope, was successfully held in the Recital Studio of Esplanade. Contrary to the past, this full house attendance concert showcased works not only from Europe, but also works from other countries like the USA, China and Indonesia. The night was graced by the performance of the guest artist, Dong-Oo Lee, who was the principal solo cellist of the KBS Symphony Orchestra, Korea. He performed Beethoven's Cello Sonata No.1 in F Major, the first classical cello sonata with written-out piano parts. The concert was concluded by the nostalgic, fantasy-like Jambalaya: A Portrait of Old New Orleans, which was a two pianos, eight hands work.

The g reatest moment of that afternoon (January 23, 2010) was perhaps not the pieces played (though they were good too), but the spontaneous karaoke session of a sporting and talented resident of St. Joseph's Home.
Though he enjoyed the soothing performance of mostly instrumental works by our members, he suggested with enthusiasm that we ought to spice up our event with some live singing.
L uckily, we were able to agree to his request and played accompaniment to some of his favourite oldies - Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xing included. He was pitch-perfect.
Overall, our event was a success with an abundance of ang ku kuehs from our two sponsors. The audience might have seemed unreceptive at first glance, for most of them were quite ill. However, there were the rare moments of enjoyment - a smile here and there, some hands clapping in rhythm, or the attentive eyes of a few residents - which made Reverie with NTUPE worth the while.

A Musical Afternoon with NTUPE |

NTUPE’s first performance for the year 2009 was successfully held at the lobby of the Raffles Hospital on the afternoon of 17th February. Titled “A Musical Afternoon with NTU Piano Ensemble”, the performance kicked off with The Entertainer, performed by our fellow member, Sophie Yue. The opening pieces, ranging from Chopin to Debussy, caught the attention of passers-by who stopped on their tracks to enjoy our music. The team is also pleased and proud to have invited 2 vocalists from the NTU CAC Choir to perform the piece “The Prayer” with piano improvisation.
Pamphlets displaying details of our upcoming annual concert, Eleganza 2009, were also distributed to the audiences. One of the highlights of the event was when the staff from the Hospital requested our performers to add in additional pieces prior the end of our programme. As a result, a few of our performers jumped at the chance to further display their skills.
All in all, the project achieved its objectives of providing a form of exposure for our fellow members as well as publicity for the Piano Ensemble’s upcoming concert.
