  1. What activities does NTU Piano Ensemble have?

    • Master Classes
      During these classes, some members play in front of our instructor and other members. The instructor and the other members will give comments for the players' improvement.
    • Eleganza
      This prestigious concert is annually held at Esplanade or Victoria Concert Hall, around February-March.
    • Other concerts including charity concert at hospitals, lunch time concerts, join concerts with strings ensemble, symphonic band, or chinese orchestra, open air performance at Esplanade concourse, and NTU’s festivals.
    • Other activities such as music outings, film screening, and music camp.

     

  2. Who can apply for membership?

    NTU/NIE students or staffs.

     

  3. Who are eligible to apply for committees?

    NTU/NIE undergraduates.

     

  4. Is there any requirement to join NTU Piano Ensemble?

    Yes. You should have piano background of at least 2 years (Grade 2 ABRSM).

     

  5. Does NTU Piano Ensemble provide lessons for pure beginners or for taking exam from institutions such as ABRSM and AMEB?

    No.

     

  6. Will members or performers get ECA points?

    Yes. Under the Hall Admission Scheme (HAS), as long as the member fulfils 60% of all Ensemble's regular activities as well as 40% of all Ensemble performances, he/she will be entitled to the HAS Campus Life points.

     

  7. How many ECA points can I earn from being one of the committees?

    Please refer SAO's Hall Admission Scheme circular for more up-to-date information regarding this.

     

  8. What committee positions are available? What are their tasks and requirements?

    Main comm and sub comm posts are now CLOSED. Ad-hoc sub comm posts will be opened if needs arise and will be announced in the future. Only Piano Ensemble are eligible to apply for ad-hoc sub comm.

     

  9. How can I register for membership?

    If you have never been registered as a member of NTU Piano Ensemble:
    • Inform us your name, your NTU e-mail address, and your contact number. Please make sure that your particulars are correct.
    • An application form will be sent to your e-mail.
      Please send the completed application form by replying the e-mail by the day you receive it.
    • Join Audition @Nanyang House,
    Successful applicants will be informed, they should confirm membership by paying annual membership fee of $12.

    If you have previously been registered as a member of NTU Piano Ensemble:
    • To renew membership, members must pay annual membership fee of $12.

       

  10. Why does NTU Piano Ensemble hold audition?

    We need to know the applicants' musical backgrounds.

     

  11. What should I do during the audition?

    During the audition, every player is to perform the following.
    • One prepared piano piece, of which duration must not exceed 3 minutes
      The piece can be classical / jazz / pop / own composition.
    • Sight reading

  12. What are the aspects marked during the audition?

    Interpretation, coordination, and correctness of notes. The graders will also add some remarks.

     

  13. I can play piano but I don't bring my piano scores. Where can I borrow some scores?

    You can borrow some scores from NIE Library.
